I’m sure you’ve heard the term ‘investment pieces’ from time to time and maybe you’ve wondered what items should I invest in and what items should I NOT invest in in order to build the most functional yet timeless wardrobe.  Investment pieces are classic wardrobe staples that you’ll wear over and over again so spending a little more on them is well worth it when you consider the cost per wear which I’ve talked about several times on my blog.  Well, today I’m going to discuss just that and give you my take on what items I invest in and why and I’m even going to share with you which items I don’t EVER invest in.  Check out the 5 investment pieces every woman should own below and feel free to shop anything you think your closet is desperately lacking along the way!

5 INVESTMENT PIECES EVERY WOMAN SHOULD OWN:

1.) OUTERWEAR:

Jackets are something that can really take any look to the next level, especially if it’s a high-quality jacket.  I wear jackets a ton so anytime I’m thinking about getting a jacket I know I’ll get my cost per wear out of it since I literally wear jackets almost every day.  It’s part of my signature look which is a jacket of some sort, a good pair of jeans and some sleek heels.  I’m going to break it down even further for you and share which jackets are important to have in your closet to ensure your wardrobe is functional and timeless so you’ll hopefully never have that dreaded feeling of “I have nothing to wear” again!

A BLACK BLAZER:

A well fitting black blazer is an essential piece in any functional wardrobe.  It can take you to the office, to dinner with friends, to church, to brunch, on a date night or girl’s night out, the possibilities are endless because a blazer so versatile proving that investing in a good one is definitely a good idea!  I have the black scuba blazer by Veronica Beard and it’s been in my closet for 3 years now and I still wear it a ton proving it was a good investment!

A LEATHER JACKET:

Hands-down the number one jacket and one I couldn’t live without which happens to be my personal favorite type of jacket is a leather jacket.  If I’m being honest I own a few too many leather jackets but I do wear them a ton so I can justify it a bit.  Also, they hold their resale value pretty well so when I’m sick of one I usually sell it on The Real Real.  If you’re wondering which color and what brand of leather jacket to invest in well look no further.  My recommendation without a shadow of a doubt is a black leather jacket by Iro.  Iro makes the absolute best leather jackets that fit like a glove and the leather is buttery soft.  I’ve owned my black Iro leather jacket for about 4 years now and it still looks new and I still wear it ton proving it’s cost per wear!  They run true to size, I wear a size 34 or 36 in Iro leather jackets.

AN ARMY JACKET:

Another jacket I recommend investing in a chic army jacket and the reason is that an army jacket is one you can wear casual or dressy depending on what you pair with it.  Also, a good high-quality army jacket won’t break the bank which is always a plus!  The jacket I’m wearing in this post is one of the best selling jackets on my blog and has been for a few years now.  This exact army jacket is by Madewell and this style has been around for a long time proving that it will never go out of style!  I love the shade of green of this army jacket and the fact that you can cinch up the waistline makes it super flattering!  There are endless ways to style this chic army jacket which is why it would be a great jacket to invest in and it’s under $120!

2.) VERSATILE BELT:

If you want to make any ensemble instantly look more expensive adding a designer belt will always do the trick.  I own several Gucci belts and wear them a ton as you know if you’ve been reading my blog for a while now.  They’re well worth the investment because a belt is something you’ll end up wearing time and time again!

3.) NEUTRAL HANDBAG:

A designer handbag is the one accessory that you’ll carry a ton so investing in a good one is key.  I’ve had this Gucci handbag for 2 years now and I still carry a ton because it’s a neutral color so it matches a basically everything in my wardrobe.  I specified neutral because if you’re going to invest in a good handbag make sure it’s a neutral color like black, white, or beige so it will go with all of your looks.

4.) FLATTERING JEANS:

A good pair of well-fitting jeans that flatters your figure is so important.  I wear jeans a ton, in fact, I wear them like 6 days a week so saying I live in denim is actually not far from the truth!  If you’re like me and love jeans and wear them a ton then finding out which brands and styles look best on you is key and if that means you have to pay a little extra for the good brands of denim it’s totally worth it since you wear them a ton!  A few of my favorite brands of jeans that are a little more of an investment are L’Agence which are the ones I’m wearing in this post, Moussy Denim, Citizens of Humanity, and Trave Denim.

5.) NEUTRAL AND BLACK HEELS:

A sleek pair of heels can take any look to the next level so investing in a designer pair is key.  I’m not saying that all of your shoes need to be designer, in fact, the ones I’m wearing in this post are by Schutz and they’re very reasonably priced.  However, I do recommend investing in one pair of black and one pair of nude designer heels.  Designer heels are usually more comfortable and they definitely last longer than say a pair of under $100 heels.  My favorite high-end shoe designer is Gianvito Rossi.  All of his shoes are so gorgeous, very high quality and of course timeless!  I also love Stuart Weitzman shoes as well, I’ve had these Nudist heels in black and nude in my closet for years and I wear them a ton with dresses, skirts, and jeans and my wardrobe seriously couldn’t function without them!

3 ITEMS YOU SHOULDN’T INVEST IN:

1.) TOPS:

Since tops are something that you don’t wear very often because you probably don’t wear the same top over and over again as you would a pair of shoes or a handbag they don’t really need to by crazy high quality.  I’ve done several posts on under $50 and under $100 tops so be sure and check those out for all of these chicest affordable tops!

2.) TRENDY PIECES:

Trendy pieces such as a trendy top or jacket don’t have to cost an arm and a leg because you’ll probably end up only wearing it once or twice which is why you don’t want to spend a ton of money on these type of pieces.

3.)  TRENDY JEWELRY:

My coin necklace in this post was only like $98 and I got it at a small boutique.  Coin necklaces are trending hard right now, but I guarantee coin necklaces won’t be in forever which is why I don’t recommend spending a ton of money of trendy accessories like this coin necklace.
