5 SUMMER TRENDS WOMEN OVER 40 SHOULD NEVER WEAR

Happy Friday ladies!  What is your favorite summer trend of 2020?  I would have to say mine is the paper bag waist trend which I’m wearing in look one because it’s so slimming yet very comfortable!  Well, if you’re wondering which trends you should be avoiding then you’ve come to the right place!  Today I’m excited to share a YouTube video and a blog post featuring summer fashion trends for over 40 women that should be avoided and 5 that you should be replacing them with.  Scroll down all the way to view all 5 summer trends you should ditch along with some trends that are more age-appropriate and of course extremely stylish and incredibly chic!

5 SUMMER FASHION TRENDS WOMEN OVER 40 SHOULD NEVER WEAR:

1.) DITCH BIKER SHORTS INSTEAD WEAR PAPER BAG WAIST SHORTS:

I highly suggest saving biker shorts for the gym only because they’re not flattering on anyone in my opinion! However, if you’re a fan of wearing shorts, wear a pair of paper bag shorts instead! These are so much more flattering and age-appropriate. These will definitely make your legs look slimmer and thinner over biker shorts. My Alice and Olivia high-waisted shorts are super flattering since they hit at the skinniest part of the waist – right underneath the ribs. Though I don’t wear a ton of prints, I love this subtle black and white print that’s so feminine and gorgeous! I’m wearing a small in the shorts and an XS in my black top.

2.) DITCH MINI SKIRTS INSTEAD WEAR MIDI SKIRTS:

In my opinion, mini skirts look better on the younger crowd. I don’t believe mini skirts do any favors for women over 40 especially since it’s trendy among teens and young girls. A more classy and chic piece to replace a mini skirt with would be a midi skirt or a midi dress! Since midi skirts hit below the knee, they are super flattering, especially on women over 40. This skirt by Anine Bing features a beautiful subtle leopard pattern of black and gold. This one is lightweight, silky, and breathable making it the perfect summer must-have piece. I paired this beautiful midi with one of my favorite black bodysuits by Alice and Olivia. I’m wearing an XS in the skirt and the bodysuit.

3.) CRAZY PRINTS INSTEAD WEAR SOLID NEUTRALS:

I’m not a huge fan of the wearing the bright, neon colors. The bright greens, bright pinks, and neon yellows are just not my favorite. As a woman over 40, I want to look and feel sophisticated, so wearing neon colors is not going to do me any favors. Instead of wearing crazy bright colors, I highly recommend wearing more neutral colors! Neutral pieces look more expensive than they really are – colors like navy, black, beige, and white. Even if the material isn’t super high quality, the neutrality is going to make it look great! My navy jumpsuit reasonably priced, and a beautiful neutral color. These have a flare leg which gives off the most flattering silhouette. I’m telling you – a neutral basic piece will never go out of style and this is one of them I highly recommend. It runs true to size, I’m wearing an XS.

Another amazing neutral find! My gorgeous black midi dress covers the knee which is great for women over 40, this is the perfect piece to wear dressed up or down and is the perfect neutral basic color that will last at least 5 years so you definitely are getting the most out of the cost per wear. You can never go wrong with a little black dress that’s under $100! It runs true to size, I’m wearing an XS in this dress.

4. DITCH CRAZY LOUD PRINTS FOR ANIMAL PRINTS:

Loud prints including crazy florals have never really been my go-to style especially after 40. Why? Patterns and prints will make you look bigger. If you are wanting to look taller and slimmer, I highly recommend ditching the loud prints for something more light and neutral like a subtle animal print. An animal print is much more polished, sophisticated, and a little bit edgy! All in all, it’s way better than wearing crazy prints. My amazing leopard cami from Nordstrom is on sale for under $30, and it looks way more expensive than it is! Wear this leopard piece year-round – by itself or with a leather jacket in the winter and you’re good to go. It transitions so well! Also, these are my new favorite jeans by Ksubi. They are the perfect wash and I feel so much taller when I wear them. I’m wearing an XS in the shirt and a size 25 in the jeans.

5.) DITCH BRIGHT TYE-DIE PRINTS FOR NEUTRAL TYE-DIE PIECES:

As you probably know, tie-dye is trending like crazy right now and many of the pieces I see are bright colors. Like I said with crazy prints, bright colors do not look sophisticated or polished by any means in my opinion! However, if you choose to wear a tie-dye print in neutral shades, it looks much more tasteful and age-appropriate. My top I’m featuring in this look is under $30 and has a mix of grey and ivory making it a perfect tie-dye option for women over 40. It looks fabulous half-tucked with light or dark wash denim. These are the same jeans as I’m wearing above and again, I highly recommend! I’m wearing an XS in the top and 25 in the jeans.
