Working out has always been a way of life for me because it not only helps me look good but more importantly it helps me FEEL good too!  I always say that looking good and feeling good are the key components to a happy life and rest assured exercise will always help you feel good on the inside!  Aside from the endorphin rush that exercising will give you it will also give you a tighter and slimmer silhouette which is no doubt harder to achieve as we get older, who would agree?  I just turned 48 in November and I’m in the best shape of my life.  I owe that to how I eat which I covered in depth in this video but I also owe it to my workout regimen which I’m going to share with all of you below so keep scrolling to check that out.  One of the things that keeps me motivated to work out is chic workout clothes and I can always count on Nordstrom to have the coolest off-the-moment activewear!  From the chicest workout sets to the cutest sneakers, and even cozy outerwear Nordstrom is always my go-to destination when it comes to shopping for the most stylish activewear!

HOW I STAY IN SHAPE AT AGE 48:

 

1. HOT YOGA: I practice hot yoga 3 times a week at Pure Yoga Dallas it’s 105 degrees 90 minutes and it has changed my life, it not only keeps me in shape but it also helps me mentally – I literally feel like a million dollars after completing the class, because you sweat so much (like you just stepped out of the shower) you release toxins and rejuvenate every single cell in your body. It also helps me mentally by helping me find my center and giving me a peaceful frame of mind. I’ve been practicing this hot yoga for 15 years and it is life-changing.

2. TRACY ANDERSON WORKOUTS: I’ve been doing Tracy Anderson workouts for about 2 years and I can tell a big difference in terms of how toned I am, especially my arms and my butt. I do this 3 times a week and use light weights which is important to be mindful of as we age. It’s important to note that lifting weights is a vital part of a workout regimen as we age to prevent osteoporosis and arthritis. She has 3 levels you can do and I usually do the Intermediate, it only takes 30 minutes and I can do it in my bedroom so it’s quick and easy.

3. EATING CLEAN: This is the most important tip of them all because what I eat is 80% of the reason I am the size I am – the food you eat will determine the size you are far more than how much you exercise.  I eat tons of veggies, like a salad at least once a day, a smoothie every morning (scroll to the bottom for the recipe) and lean white meat or fish at dinner almost every night. I can admit that I’m a big snacker, so to keep up with my clean eating I tend to snack on nuts and granola. I mostly stay away from carbs but I will have an occasional order of fries when I go out to eat, you only live once! Remember that it’s not about eating this way 100% of the time but being as consistent as possible without limiting yourself too much. I try to eat this way about 90% percent of the time and it seems to work for me! I also have a sweet tooth so I allow myself one small dessert a day. As far as beverages go, I don’t drink alcohol, maybe one glass a week, I drink water throughout the day and allow myself one cup of coffee in the morning.

SNAKE PRINT TOP:

I love wearing workout gear that makes me feel chic and put together when I am wearing it! One sure fire way to achieve this is to wear a matching set with a subtle print, like the set I’m wearing here. I LOVE this metallic snake print, the colors are in my favorite neutral palate and the print is just busy enough to distract from any panty lines, but not so busy that it draws your eye to any one particular area. I’m wearing a size 4 in this fabulous top.

When it comes to work out leggings, I have pretty high standards, and this pair does a fantastic job of checking all the boxes. They are high-waisted (a must), super comfortable, they STAY UP during activity and they wash well, which is important for me because of how often I exercise, they get ALOT of use. I’m wearing a size 4 in these killer workout leggings.

OSITO TEDDY JACKET:

Layering is key when I’m choosing my workout outfit because I want to be sure I’m comfortable before, during and after I exercise. This super cozy fleece jacket is perfect to throw on and stay comfy to and from the gym, yoga studio or pool. It will keep you comfortable and fashionable, the perfect combo! I’m wearing an XS in this lovely coat.

SMOOTHIE RECIPE

 

1 scoop of  SPROUT LIVING plant-based protein powder:

1/4 banana

   1 scoop of Collagen Powder 

1/4 cup of mixed frozen organic blueberries

1/2 cup of frozen organic spinach

3 ice cubes

1 teaspoon of chia seeds 1

1 1/2 – 2 cups of coconut water – hands down the best form of hydration

Combine all of these ingredients in a blender or NutriBullet and mix on high for 60 seconds.
