SHOP MY LOOK:
SPECIAL SHOUT OUT: I want to take a minute to brag on one of my dearest friends, fellow influencer and MEGA You Tuber, Erin Busbee of Busbee Style. You have probably seen her on my blog before, our latest post together was titled: 5 LOOKS I WORE TO THE REWARD STYLE CONFERENCE. We met 6 years ago because someone told us we had to meet because we looked liked sisters! Well, we are the same size and we both have blonde hair so I guess we look a little bit like sisters. We became fast friends and I couldn’t be more thankful for our friendship. She’s not only a good friend of mine, but she inspires me to be a better business woman every day because she is amazing at what she does and she’s killing it, I couldn’t be more proud of her!
You must check out her YouTube Channel BUSBEE STYLE. She has helped me tremendously with starting my YouTube channel and I’m so grateful! If you or someone you know is thinking about starting a YouTube channel you must check Erin’s tutorial out: HOW TO START A SUCCESSFUL YOUTUBE CHANNEL
5 TIPS FOR GETTING FIT AFTER 40:
1.) DRINK A PLANT BASED PROTEIN SHAKE FOR BREAKFAST:
I’ve consumed the same shake for like the past 8 years and I literally crave it every morning when I wake up. I’ve shared the recipe on my blog before, but it’s such an important part of how I stay fit that I’m sharing it again for all my new readers. It’s not only good for you, but it actually tastes good too! It’s dairy free, gluten free, and it’s packed full of tons of nutrients! Scroll all the way down to the bottom of this post for the full recipe.
2.) EAT CLEAN:
I’ve done a very detailed post on my diet before on the blog titled: WHAT I EAT AND WHAT I DO TO STAY FIT so for a more detailed list of what I eat exactly you can refer to that post as well. Basically, I eat tons of veggies, lean proteins such as chicken and fish, nuts, almond butter, and some fruit every single day. Yes, I cheat on occasion of course but this is how I eat 90% of the time. I basically follow the Paleo way of eating and it seems to work very well for me. I do however have a sweet tooth, and I do allow myself to have a small dessert every day such as a small piece of pie or cake or a handful of chocolate covered almonds. It’s all about moderation and balance when it comes to eating.
HEAR ME OUT: If there is one thing you get from today’s post it should be this: The size you are is 85% due to what you eat, not how much you exercise! That is why 4 out of the 5 tips I’m giving you today have to do with what you eat and drink.
3.) DRINK MORE WATER:
I had a volleyball coach in high school tell my entire team to quit drinking cokes or anything really except water so we all did it and I swear all of us lost at least 5 pounds including me! It really works, whatever you drink during the day replace it with water and I promise you’ll lose a few pounds. I drink 64 ounces a day and it not only makes me feel good, but it keeps me full so I don’t eat as much. The best type of bottled water to drink is called Essentia and the reason is that this water is Alkaline based so it will actually put your body in a disease-fighting state which is what you want!
4.) EXERCISE REGULARLY:
I work out 6 days a week and not just because it helps me look better, but mainly because it helps me FEEL better! I’m no doubt, a more relaxed and happier person because I exercise. I love hot yoga and I’m literally obsessed with it! I do Bikram hot yoga which is a 90-minute therapeutic and healing class that is 105 degrees in the room and you sweat like you’ve never sweat before and you feel like a million dollars when you walk out. Every single time. I also lift weights twice a week because my Doctor told me that women older than 40 should lift weights to help fight against osteoporosis. You certainly don’t have to workout 6 days a week to get fit or even to stay fit, remember what I said above, the size you are has more to do with what you eat than how much you work out. So, set a reasonable goal for yourself and stick with that. I would say anywhere between 3-5 times is a great place to be!
5.) LIMIT ALCOHOL CONSUMPTION:
Please don’t think I’m a Debbie downer for saying this, lol! Drinking a ton of wine or beer or vodka or whatever your drink of choice is will make it really hard for you to stay or get in shape, trust me! I don’t drink very often, maybe 1-3 drinks a week or every 2 weeks and here’s why. First, wine is the only type of alcohol I can drink because I hate beer and hard liquor of any kind makes me crazy. So, when I drink wine even just one glass I almost always get a headache and I’m up like 3-4 hours during the night so for me, it’s just not worth it! Maybe you’re the same as me or maybe you drink a more than me, if you’re in the second boat then just try and cut back on your alcohol intake and see what happens. I promise, you’ll be surprised at how good you feel and I bet you will even lose a few pounds without even trying!
REMEMBER: These are just suggestions and things that have worked for me. I’m certainly not trying to tell you what to do or how to live your life. I’m simply sharing what works for me and hopefully, you can take 1 or 2 of these tips and benefit from them!
