4 WAYS TO MASTER THE ART OF LAYERING
in Fashion on 19/02/2020
One way to dress like its spring which is exactly what I want to do right now yet still stay to warm is to layer like a pro! Anyone else so over winter clothes and ready to bring out all of the fun spring pieces?! I have had spring fever for the last month at least so needless to say I’m really itching to wear all the spring clothes I’ve added to my wardrobe lately. One way to do this while it’s still cold out is to master the art of layering. You may be wondering how to layer for spring, well look no further, in today’s post I’m giving you 4 easy tips guaranteed to help you layer like an expert! Layering not only keeps you warm, but it also adds interest and intentionality to your looks which inevitably takes them up a few notches! For more style tips on how to elevate your looks feel free to check out one of my recent YouTube videos titled: 7 STYLE TIPS GUARANTEED TO ELEVATE ANY LOOK.

4 STYLE TIPS TO LAYER LIKE A PRO:
1.) CHOOSE A FORM FITTING FIRST LAYER:
This sounds like a no-brainer but you really do have to pay attention to your first layer and make sure it’s form-fitting enough to not feel too bulky under the jacket you’ll be wearing. My favorite “first layer” tops are usually camisoles, bodysuits, or t-shirts. These are perfect for not so cold days. If it is freezing out and you need that extra warmth then I would opt for a fitted turtleneck or cashmere sweater. This v-neck cashmere sweater from J Crew is my favorite “first layer” that I wear on really cold days!
2.) CHOOSE COMPLIMENTARY COLORS:
Layering means you will be wearing multiple items of clothing so needless to say they all need to be color coordinated. To keep your ensemble looking springy I would opt for pastels, whites, ivories, and neutrals as I did in today’s post. I would stick to mostly solids too versus prints. If you are going to add a print I would make sure only ONE piece in your ensemble is a print. For example, try topping your look with an animal print scarf as I did in this look I wore last week to Ohio.
3.) TRY A STRUCTURED JACKET AS THE SECOND LAYER:
The second layer I’m wearing in this look is this super chic yet very affordable denim jacket. It’s more of a structured jacket as opposed to an oversized jacket so I knew it would fit easily under my top layer aka my blush pink oversized jacket. My denim jacket not only added a layer of warmth, but it added a bit of texture and interest to this look making it a bit more interesting and intentional. Other structured jackets that would work while layering would be blazers, leather jackets, and even a bomber jacket.
4.) CHOOSE A TOP LAYER THAT IS A BIT OVERSIZED:
The coat that you’ll be wearing on top needs to be a bit oversized so that it fits over the rest of your look effortlessly. I personally love coats with dolman sleeves like the blush pink one I’m wearing in this post because they fit easily over any other jacket or sweater since the sleeves are made much fuller. Some of my other favorite coats to wear as the top layer besides dolman sleeve jackets are trench coats, faux fur jackets, over-sized blazers, and long coats.
OUTFIT DETAILS:
BLUSH PINK JACKET: This quilted jacket is by Blanknyc so the quality is high and the price point is low – always a plus! I adore the dolman sleeves and the oversized silhouette of this jacket making it very fashion-forward yet very wearable! It can easily be dressed up by pairing it with heels as I did in today’s post but I also love it worn super casual with sneakers! It also comes in a really cool olive green shade which would be so good for spring too! It runs true to size, I’m wearing an XS.
GOOD AMERICA BODYSUIT: I wear white bodysuits a ton in the spring and summer under all of my jackets. I love this one by Good American, it’s super slimming and the scoop neckline is perfect for showing off a chic neck stack!
CITIZENS OF HUMANITY JEANS: These jeans are by Citizens of Humanity and they’re called THE OLIVIA. I love this fit so much that I have them in a faded black and a darker blue. They’re high-waisted with an ankle-length and this wash is so perfect for spring and summer! They run a little big so I suggest sizing down one size, I’m wearing a size 24.
